ARENELLA BEACH

Beaches

An oasis of beauty and tranquility on the island of Giglio

The Arenella beach is a place where the natural beauty of the Giglio Island manifests itself in all its splendour. Whether you enjoy relaxing on the beach, underwater exploration or scenic walks, this beach has something for everyone. With its combination of history, nature and beauty, the Arenella beach is a must for anyone visiting the island of Giglio.

Hidden on the east coast of the island of Giglio, the Arenella beach is one of the most fascinating destinations for those visiting the island. With its combination of golden sand, crystal clear waters and breathtaking landscapes, this beach offers a unique experience of relaxation and beauty.

Natural and Historical features

The Arenella beach extends for about 100 metres, set between an Etruscan-Roman granite quarry and a rock called “la Tartaruga” due to its shape resembling a tortoise. This unique position, combined with the light golden colored granite sand and the seabed that alternates sand and rock, makes the Arenella beach a place of rare beauty. Snorkelers will find it particularly fascinating to explore the seabed under the old quarry, where boulders and meadows of posidonia are home to a variety of fish, octopuses and starfish.

An Authentic and Wild Experience

Despite its proximity to Giglio Porto, the Arenella beach retains a wild and uncontaminated atmosphere. The alternation of sand and boulders makes it particularly appreciated by those looking for an authentic experience, away from the more crowded beaches. The large rock on the left, the “Turtle”, is an ideal place for sunbathing, climbing or acrobatic diving. For those who love rocks, the smooth and polished boulders that follow one another along the beach offer endless possibilities for exploration and fun.

Services and Comforts

The Arenella beach offers a combination of free beach and equipped lido. During the summer season, the “Caldane Beach” blue point offers services such as umbrellas and sunbeds, while a small bar behind the beach offers refreshments to visitors. However, given the small size of the free beach, it is advisable to arrive early to secure a spot.

How to reach the Arenella beach

The Arenella beach is easily reachable from Giglio Porto, only 3.5 km away. Visitors can travel along a paved road by car or taxi. However, during the high season, parking near the beach can be limited, so it may be necessary to park a little further away and walk to the beach. For those who prefer walking, it is possible to reach the beach in about 40 minutes from Giglio Porto, crossing a panoramic path that offers breathtaking views of the sea and the Mediterranean scrub.
