People from Giglio Island have always lived on fish, rabbits , vegetables, wild fruits and fine grapes. Agriculture is only held privately but in the last years there has been a serious wish to go back to cultivation and local produce with the birth of farms and farmers cooperatives with award winning, top quality products such as:

 

Ansonaco Wine

 

Ansonaco. Awarded with 3 glasses of the prestigious Gambero Rosso, ideal with vegetable soups, shellfishes and fish in general. In 1552, Paolo Giovio said about Giglio “insula suavissima vino celebris (Historiarum sui temporis” referring about its great local wine. The grapes of Ansonaco were very much appreciated from Stendhal as well, who, while working in Civitavecchia as consul, the 14th of september 1831 wrote: «De ma fenétre j'ai une vue et un air admirable. Je jette dans la mer les grappes d'un excellent raisin qu'on nous apporte de l'Ile de Giglio». (Correspondance indite 1855).

Honey

Our honey is the 3rd best in the world. International price award Biolmiel 2008. From biological agriculture, with an intense aromatic flavour of marvellous cistus flowers, myrtle, helichrysum, heather and rosemary growing spontaneously from the countryside of this enchanting island in the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago. Controlled by the Institute of certification of Ethics and Environment.
