The "Pro Loco Isola del Giglio" was born on the 30th of March 1991 thanks to far-sighted local citizens, concerned about touristic development and growth and sensitive to preservation of the territory, its history, traditions and costumes.

Before the Pro Loco Isola del Giglio was founded, pioneers like Ottorino Brandaglia who developed his work and ideas in the island's municipality. His ideas brought about a non profit association movement, with volonteers who understood the importance of promoting the territory and its tourism in constant evolution.

Today the full name of the association is "Pro Loco Isola del Giglio & Giannutri - Giovanni Bancalà". Giannutri Island is part of the municipality of Giglio Island , and the name Giovanni Bancalà is a tribute to a man who showed great devotion to the Pro Loco , to remind us of the work this man unfortunately deceased, generously dedicated to his island.
